La Ventana and El Sargento fill up every winter with kiteboarders and windsurfers. Some days the wind just doesn't come. Those are good days to swim with whale sharks in La Paz Bay, and starting in late November we'll pick you up in town to do it, every Wednesday and Saturday.
The Wind Season in La Ventana
The kite season runs from about mid-October to mid-April. The north wind blows down the channel between the coast and Isla Cerralvo, and it usually builds after about 11 AM. Most of the season it blows, but not every day, and some days it never fills in.
What People Do on No-Wind Days
The kite schools send their students snorkeling in the bay, hiking or mountain biking in the desert, or off for a massage. Others go kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing or diving.
Why a Calm Day Is a Whale Shark Day
Whale shark season in La Paz Bay runs mid-November through April, the same months as the wind season. The sharks feed in the bay off La Paz, about an hour's drive from La Ventana. Calm water makes for easy snorkeling, and you spend the afternoon in the water with the biggest fish in the sea instead of watching the flags hang.

How the Day Works
- 9:30 AM: pickup at OXXO El Sargento.
- 10:00 AM: pickup at Playa Central, La Ventana, then the drive to La Paz.
- 11:30 AM: check in at The Hook on the Malecón for your gear fitting and safety briefing.
- 12:00 PM: board the boat and head out to the whale shark zone.
- Around 4:30–5:00 PM: back in La Ventana and El Sargento.
Trips run Wednesdays and Saturdays. Check the forecast early in the week, and if a Wednesday or Saturday looks light, that's your day.
Price and What's Included
3,100 MXN per person on our collective boat, with round-trip transport from El Sargento and La Ventana, a guide in the water, snorkel gear, a wetsuit and the park fees. Photos and video aren't included on the shared trip.
For your own group, the private trip is 31,000 MXN for up to 10 guests on our small-group Hook boat, with more time in the water, photos and video, and pickup where you're staying.

Starting in late November, Wednesdays and Saturdays through April. Message us to book or ask a question. Full refund if you cancel more than 10 days before your tour. If we cancel for weather, we'll move you to another day if we have availability — if not, you get a full refund.
