The story of The Hook Experiences — and why La Paz is the most extraordinary place on earth.

Evan had spent his life in the mountains — snowboarding and fishing — an adventurous existence lived mostly at altitude. In 2014 he came to La Paz with a group of friends, looking for something with more energy and more life. He found it. The city, the sea, the people — something clicked that he hadn't felt anywhere else. He fell in love with La Paz that trip and spent the next several years looking for a way to come back for good.
He launched The Hook in March 2020. The world was shutting down. He was just getting started.
The mountains gave him a life of snowboarding and fishing. The Sea of Cortez called louder. He came to La Paz, ate the plums of El Mogote — and never left.

Memo grew up in Mérida, Yucatán with a deep passion for nature, adventure, and the natural world from an early age. When he first visited La Paz he immediately recognized something extraordinary — a sea unlike anything he had ever encountered. He stayed. Together with Evan he built The Hook around a shared conviction that great guides are people who genuinely love what they protect.
The Hook is more than a tour company. We are a destination on the La Paz Malecón — a boutique shop, tour booking desk, bar, and artisan market all under one roof at the heart of Paseo Alvaro Obregon.
Walk in off the Malecón, book your whale shark tour, browse local merch, grab a drink, and meet the team that will take you out on the water. And say hello to Layla — she's in the shop most days. The mercado patio behind the shop is home to local artisans, jewelers, and vendors — a true La Paz experience.

Every tour is led by a certified marine biologist. We contribute to ongoing research on the La Paz whale shark population and Sea of Cortez ecosystems.
We follow every SEMARNAT and CONANP regulation and go beyond the minimum requirements. The ocean comes first — always and without exception.
Maximum 10 guests on The Hook boats. For larger groups and collective tours we work with trusted partners — relationships built over 6 years. The best experience and the least impact — they are the same thing.
