Sea Safari Sur starts with a pickup in La Paz and the drive out to Ensenada de Muertos, near La Ventana, with 8 guests at most. From there the boat heads to the southern tip of Isla Cerralvo. Prefer to leave by boat from the Malecón? See Sea Safari Norte.

At the southern tip of Isla Cerralvo the mountains drop straight into coral gardens beside deep water, and strong currents pull nutrients up from below, which draws the wildlife in.

Mobulas gather here by the hundreds — acrobatic, curious, impossible to predict. When you find a school, you're swimming inside it.

Never guaranteed — wildlife is wild — but orcas are encountered in these waters. Your guide knows the currents and reads the water the whole way.

Board the boat and head for the southern tip of Isla Cerralvo — mountains meeting coral gardens.
We work the bay first, with the resident sea lion colony at the tip of Isla Cerralvo, then push out into open water to look for sperm whales.
Burritos, snacks, or ceviche, served on the sand between water sessions.
Giant mantas under the surface, whales on the horizon. We keep searching the open water, because you never know what's next.
Back on the road to La Paz, gear and all, at the end of the day.
Sea lions and mobula rays, and if we're lucky, orcas.
