Both run November through April. Both are marine-biologist-led, both cap at 10 guests. So which one should you actually book? Here's the honest breakdown — not a sales pitch for the more expensive one.
The Short Answer
If Whale Sharks are the one thing you came for, and you'd rather have more time in the water with them than a longer day, book the Whale Shark Experience. If you want the Whale Shark encounter plus a Sea Lion colony and Balandra Beach in the same outing, and you're comfortable trading some per-stop time for covering more ground, book The Grand Slam.

What You're Actually Trading
The Whale Shark Experience is built around one thing: rotating guests into the water with the Whale Sharks in groups of 3–4, so everyone gets multiple turns rather than one brief shared rotation. It's a shorter, more focused day.
The Grand Slam adds real time and real logistics — a longer 5-hour trip, two additional stops, and a booking flow that isn't instant online checkout because the itinerary depends on the SEMARNAT rotation slot you're assigned. You're not getting less Whale Shark time by choice; the added stops mean the day covers more, not that any one piece gets shorter than it should.
"One is built for the Whale Sharks specifically. The other is built for the trip that only has one day to give La Paz."
Or Book Both — Separately
If your trip has the days, plenty of guests do exactly that: the Whale Shark Experience on one day, Balandra Beach as its own outing on another. You get full time at each stop rather than one combined day. There's no wrong answer here — it's a question of how many days you actually have in La Paz, not which tour is "better."
